Disney Cartoon Peril Scene; Pencil & Paper and Photoshop COLOR.

Miranda, still groggy from the knockout drug, struggles in the chair for all she's worth, knowing that she can't count on any help. The bomb, which had started at 20 minutes, cruelly maintained it's steady pace towards zero, and with time getting short, it was even more desperate knowing that all of her police training hadn't so far assisted in loosening any of the knots. They must have been tied out of reach as she still couldn't even touch one of them. Suddenly, Bonkers, seemingly out of nowhere, barged through the door!

"She must be on this floor somewhere!" Bonkers muttered as he raced through the halls of the skyscraper. Hearing some muffled cries behind a door at the end of a hallway, he threw open the door, finding Miranda tied to a chair, with a bomb! A sense of justice overcoming his logic he exclaimed "I'LL SAVE YOU, MIRANDA!", and slid over to the bomb...if he couldn't get it open, he'd just throw it out through the window, and either way it would be easier than trying to untie all those ropes in only a couple minutes.

Picking the lock was easy! "I'm sure I can figure out how to turn off this...." POW! Bonkers only remembered seeing stars as something knocked him back against the wall. His eyesight fogged over, he could still hear Miranda's desperate mmph's as he tried to center himself....Must.......stop........bomb.....

Just a bit of a different perspective on this scenario for some added enjoyment.

I had more than a couple requests to color this one, and I don't blame those that did...this was a fun one to draw, and although this took me forever, I think it looks ok colored, too.

Here is what I did:

Officer Bonkers D. Bobcat: Bonkers was pretty simple to color, once I checked out the references. Although he was depicted slightly different depending on whether you watched early in the series or late, I did a compromise. The shades of the bottom of his feet were probably the hardest to decide upon. I tried to use more cel shading this time to make things come forth easier.

Sergeant Miranda Wright: Miranda had some complicated details: I never really figured out her shoes, considering they are all black, but I used white highlights as a last resort. I did use a nifty pattern stamp on her dress socks, and I erased some original clothing lines after I cel shaded. I tried to pay better attention to the sun's angle from outside into the high rise office, and though I don't think it came out perfect, I am satisfied.

The Scene: Although I rushed this big time in the original sketch, I decided to have some fun with it in the coloring and just pick some awful looking crazy colors for the other skyscrapers....in my mind perhaps this is what it would look like in a slapstick Disney show. I shaded the exclamation for more effect, and took many attempts on trying to use a pattern or filter to simulate the windows...I didn't succeed, but you can see some light color changes on the borders where I tried to show the distortion of clear windows. I threw in the usual amount of patterns and filters on the rest of the surfaces to avoid solids.

A long time in the coloring for this one, and I hope it paid off. Let me know what you all think! And thank you to the requesters; I hope I have done you proud!!!

- JC

EDIT: I fixed Miranda's arm and the skyscraper behind the chair's back...OOPS how did I miss that???

You are getting really good with your coloring

This looks like a professional cartoon. Gone are the days you could call yourself an amateur.
:icondlshowtime:
Excellent work here. Looks like a scene right out of the cartoon.

Lead us not into temptation... Just point us in the general direction and we'll find it ourselves.

Miranda is gorgeous.

I always liked the episodes where Bonkers gets paired with Miranda Wright better since they were made before the ones with Lucky Piquel (as indicated by the art stylings from the Raw Toonage shorts which carried over into said episodes). Personal fave episode of those: "Tokyo Bonkers"

That aside, it's quite an impressive piece.

You can see through the back of the chair (between rungs? I don't know what you call them), but you can't see Miranda's arm OR the apartment building.

Sorry, that's nitpicky. Nice job! I like it. Too bad the show had very few (i think i recall one) scene with Miranda in bonds and she escapes instantly anyway.
